Our Story

Karlka Recruiting Group was established with the Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation, with the objective to be an effective connection between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and businesses. Karlka Recruiting Group has extensive recruitment capability and experience.

We recognise that closing the gap in Indigenous unemployment requires a partnership approach with government, industry and community.

As an Indigenous owned and Supply Nation Registered organisation, Karlka Recruiting Group promotes diversity and equality. Karlka Recruiting Group works with government and corporate clients and their professional associations to promote the central role we play in increasing the rate of Indigenous employment and retention. Karlka Recruiting Group also partners with local Indigenous communities and their representative bodies where we do business to increase employment rates of local people, and create lasting social and economic change.

Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation

Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation has a 51% stake in Karlka Recruiting Group and is a not-for-profit Indigenous Organisation (no. 3649) registered with the Office of The Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC). Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation aims to create value for its members, maintain Nyiyaparli culture and to provide direct relief of poverty, sickness, suffering, distress, destitution, misfortune and helplessness among the Nyiyaparli People.

Occupation of Nyiyaparli land by its traditional owners can be verified to at least 41,000 years, being the second oldest on record in Australia. The Nyiyaparli People are the Traditional Owners of approximately 36,684 square kilometres of land and waters in the east Pilbara region including the township of Newman. The land has many landmarks and places that continue to have ongoing significance to the Nyiyaparli People.

Nyiyaparli traditional owners have significant mining benefit agreements with Australia’s major iron ore miners (BHP Billiton; Rio Tinto; Fortescue Metals Group; and the Roy Hill Project), all of whom have mining operations and tenements on Nyiyaparli country. Karlka

Charles Tucker


Charles Tucker circleCharles is a Nyiyaparli man born in in 1974 in Port Hedland, Western Australia. He grew up in Onslow where he attended school. In 1998 his family decided to relocate to Tom Price to get more involved in the mining on their country. “I think without this decision I would not know about my mother and father’s country” he said.

Charles carries out heritage work on country. He has worked for BHP Billiton on several mine sites and also worked for Rio Tinto in Paraburdoo, as part of the Production Team.

As years progressed, Charles was appointed a member of the Nyiyaparli Native Title working group, and has been in this role for the last five years. In 2013 he became a Director of Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation (Karlka) where he has assumed responsibilities for the Nyiyaparli people.

He is on several committees and subsidiaries, becoming a director of Karlka Workforce Pty Ltd in 2014 and consequently a Director of the Karlka Recruiting Group Pty Ltd (KRG). Charles is also a member of the Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation’s Board of Directors, in Tom Price.

Tanya Drage 


Tanya Drage circleTanya was born in Northampton, Western Australia, and was schooled and raised in Port Hedland. Tanya is a Director of Karlka Developments Pty Ltd and is a full time employee of Karlka Facilities Management, which holds a facilities management contract out on a mine site on her traditional land.

Tanya has a strong background in horticulture and environmental work and spends her free time out on her holiday shack which is located on her Native Title Claim. Tanya enjoys gold prospecting and developing herself as a strong Indigenous woman.

James Campbell

James Campbell is a Director at Karlka Recruiting Group.  James is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years’ experience.  He has a background in public practice dealing with SMEs and has overseen the reporting and financial operations of Karlka Recruiting Group since its inception.

James adopts a “make a difference” approach which will assist the business as it continues to grow strongly.

James is a well-respected member of Karlka Recruiting Group’s family and is considered to be a mentor to many of his staff.  He fosters the importance of learning and developing and encompasses this throughout the workplace.

Laetitia Nicholson

Laetitia Nicholson Circle2Holding a Bachelor of Business Management, Laetitia began her recruitment journey sourcing blue collar candidates for FIFO positions before moving into our Karlka Recruiting Group management team.

These days, apart from recruiting a range of White Collar roles, Laetitia specialises in the recruitment for Federal Government positions and is the go to person for processes and problem solving. Laetitia’s acknowledgeable past achievements and her innovative and efficient work style has resulted in her successful climb through the organisation.

Laetitia is the Recruitment Director for Karlka Recruiting Group whereby she is responsible, for all recruitment processes, the management of the recruitment team and all business development activities at Karlka Recruiting Group.

Laetitia finds great satisfaction in knowing that her work is positively contributing to the economy and benefiting the lives and wellbeing of Australia’s first people.

Mark Thiganoff

His colourful sales career has allowed him to work across many different industries. However, he has found that the recruitment industry marries perfectly with his personality and lifestyle.

Mark heads a large sales team and is passionate about people and assisting clients in meeting their Reconciliation Action Plan targets. He is dedicated to help his staff get the most out of themselves. His optimism and go getting attitude empowers his staff and filters through to his candidates and clients.

Ian Garbutt

Starting out as an Apprentice Carpenter, Ian cultivated his career into a respected Builder. Ian's experience in the Construction Industry ignited his passion for the trade and excitement for the people he interacted with.

Ian's leadership as the National Sales Manager is to be admired. His ability to motivate and inspire the entire recruitment sales force has become his defining role with his go to saying "whatever it takes".
